Here at Renewal by Andersen® of Amarillo, we get lots of questions from curious customers just like you. From what type of frame to buy to how to save money on energy bills, we hear it all. And we enjoy educating our customers on our exceptional replacement windows and how they can add value to your home.
Here are some of our most common window FAQs, but don’t hesitate to call us with additional questions or concerns at any time.
Q: Do I have to replace all windows at one time? Can I replace them one at a time?
A: Depends on what makes most sense for you. If you plan to eventually replace all your windows, it’s more cost effective and easier on everyone involved if you do them all at once. But if you only have one or two windows that actually need to be replaced, you can certainly do that too. If you plan to replace them all but aren’t sure how you will budget for it, Renewal by Andersen® of Amarillo will create a replacement schedule that will ensure gradual installation over time, affordably.
Q: Must I replace my windows with the same style I currently have?
A: No. You can combine various styles and shapes of windows if you want to switch things up. Keep in mind, some window styles are more conducive to a particular home style. But overall, yes, you can mix and match. For example, it’s possible to replace two double hung windows with one big picture window.
Q: Should I install new windows myself to save cash?
A: No. You should never attempt window installation on your own, as you could void the warranty on the windows and you run the risk of installing them improperly, which will cost you in the long run. All of our windows include professional installation by our factory-trained crews who make sure your windows are properly balanced and installed for long-lasting performance and energy efficiency.
Q: What’s the best type of window frame?
A: We will make it very easy for you: our own Fibrex®, made exclusively by Renewal by Andersen®, offers strength, durability, insulating properties, ease of maintenance, and aesthetics. You will find that all frame materials on the market today have some combination of these qualities. But you won’t find one frame that does it ALL like Fibrex.
Q: Can I save money on energy costs by installing replacement windows?
A: Of course. With our replacement windows, not only will you use less energy, you’ll see lower energy bills overall. This is great news, especially when you know you can lose up to one-third of the money you spend to heat and cool your home, which escapes through gaps in inefficient windows. Our replacement windows feature insulated frames and glass packages that ensure a strong thermal barrier so no energy loss can occur.
Q: Why do you add “inert gas” added between the panes of glass?
A: Inert gas (typically argon or krypton) prevents the transfer of thermal energy through the process of conduction, further ensuring no energy escapes.
Q: Can’t I just buy cheap windows at the local hardware or big box store?
A: Technically you could, but it’s not recommended. Those cookie cutter windows may sound like a great deal, but they’re comprised of lower quality materials that appeal to home builders who want to save money. They don’t really care about window performance; it’s in their best interests to keep their costs low. Our windows are custom sized to fit your home and measured to deliver incredible, long-lasting performance.
